Summer is right around the corner along with vacation season, more social gatherings, and eating out at restaurants.
Eating out may not be the healthiest, but it’s a fun way to socialize, try new things, explore new communities, and enjoy time with friends & family. So instead of either avoiding restaurants or just making them a cheat day, here are a couple tips to enjoy this time and still stick to your plan:
- Decide ahead: Pull up the restaurant’s menu before you go and decide then what you’ll order. It’s going to be a lot easier to stick with a healthy choice when you’re not surrounded by savory aromas and a tempting atmosphere. Make your choice and don’t even pick up the menu when you’re seated.
- Favor salads, fish, steak, “lighter choice”, or half meals: typically, salads with dressing on the side, fish, and steak are good options, especially when not served with a grain. Some restaurants will also have specific light choice options, but if nothing catches your eye, you can get a plate and only eat half. Cut half and get a box for it as soon as possible.
- Ditch the soda: Go for water, or if it’s that type of evening, 1 or 2 adult beverages. Soda adds a lot of calories quick and it doesn’t even get you buzzed.
- Eat less during the day: If you know you’re going to a nice place and going to eat a little more than normal for dinner, try to make your other meals smaller to even out the day.
Most importantly, enjoy the warm weather!
Cheers,
